TUESDAY FEB 24 - WOMEN & MEN!! MOVIE NIGHT AT SEGO FOR THE FIRST TIME!

Tonight will be a night not to miss, come right at 8 to not miss a moment of the film “He’s Just Not That Into You” because we’re going to dissect it afterward. Do the film or the book it is based off of hold any merit? Do they accurately diagnose and portray the problems between men and women and how does the film portray women in general? Whatever it was meant to be in the beginning, this ”box office hit” serves as a social commentary. How do we rate it? Shall we recommend it to our friends?

TUESDAY, MARCH 3 - WTW 6!

TONIGHT IS JUST GIRLS, thanks guys - we will see you next week!

ONCE AGAIN WE WILL BE AT SEGO ART CENTER, and we will be having a great little night of sharing. Bring your favorite inspiring quote and your journal/diary: maybe written by a feminist, maybe someone else; or just bring your journal/diary. Or just come! We are going to be having free writes/reads based off of great quotes by great people. We want to hear your stories. When have you felt slighted? Where do you find inspiration? Why are you glad to be a woman? Why not? You don’t have to share, but you can have a great moment of self-reflection if nothing else.

TUESDAY, MARCH 10 - WTW 7

We will be having an interesting talk about facts and interesting insights in “The Female Brain” by Louann Brizendine, author and M.D. In several “sections” she describes the phases that the female brain goes through from birth until death. Many of the ways women react, act and feel during different periods throughout their life can be described by changes that occur within their brain! Please come and learn as we discuss her findings.

March 17 - WTW 8 - Thank you to all who came last week. There are no words to describe how amazing the discussion was.
This week is simple, pure and good. Come talk about women — women who have been great in your life — who has influenced you? Whether it’s your mother, grandmother or your crush on your 3rd grade teacher, you need to recognize. Have a favorite feminist author? Talk about her. Bring pictures and quotes! Email pictures to womentalkwomen@gmail.com if you want to broadcast them on the projector at the meeting. or just pass a snapshot. Women have in big and small ways influenced us in ways no one else could. Make tuesday night special and come talk women!

March 24 - WTW 9 -

Tonight we’ve changed the topic last minute, but don’t worry! This one has been in the works for a while!!!! We are so excited for tuesday’s topic and Artist: Shirin Neshat. This Iranian female artist is a contemporary genius who specializes in photography and video art, and is world renowned for her work about women and what alternative feminism means. It will be a night to remember, we will see some clips from her films and some of her own commentary on her work. Here are some links for you to check out!

JUST GOOGLE HER. she’s great. see you tomorrow!

March 31 - WTW 10

Emma Gilman will speak to us about some of what she has learned working at the YWCA Domestic violence shelter in Salt Lake. She will speak to us about domestic violence and specifically about how things that we even do in our lives are linked to behaviors in abusive relationships. Examples: 1. why do we keep calling when we know they won’t call us back? 2. why do women/men keep going back to men that abuse them emotionally or are manipulative?

LET’S TALK ABOUT IT!

APRIL 7 - WTW 11 -

Our good friend Mariana is going to share and discuss what she’s learned from a book called “Taking Charge of Your Fertility: The Definitive Guide to Natural Birth Control, Pregnancy Achievement, and Reproductive Health.” She says, “Personally, I think this is a book every women should read in order to better understand their body and also other women around them understand their bodies too. Before reading this book I felt overwhelmed and hopeless b/c my cycles were not ‘normal’ but this book helped me realize that what I was taught as “normal” was completely wrong!”

This night will be so great and completely eye opening.

Here is a link to the book: http://www.amazon.com/Taking-Charge-Your-Fertility-Reproductive/dp/0060937645

We’ll also discuss Eco-friendly feminine hygiene products that are Daggum cheep, work better (in my opinion), and are perfect for active lifestyles. And you can say good bye to Toxic Shock Syndrome and dogging in to the bathroom several times a day clutching your purse like your carrying a boom. Prepare yourself for the life of a Diva, or in other words I’m going to tell you how much I love my “Diva Cup”

We are so happy to add that two of Mariana’s friends will be joining us to talk to us about midwifery and the joys of natural birthing : ) yessahhhh!!!

April 14 - WTW Erin Kramer Holmes: Marriage and Society

Erin has decided to talk about why marriage matters for societies and for individuals.  There is a current public debate about whether marriage, as a societal institution, is declining (a true cause for alarm) or simply evolving (no cause for alarm, possibly a cause for celebration).  Some of the questions at the heart of the debate are:
Why should people marry?
Is marriage better for men than for women?
How much does family structure (marriage vs. cohabitation vs. single-parent family) matter for child development?
Erin has a PhD from The University of Texas at Austin in Human Development and Family Sciences.

Erin is an accomplished teacher, writer and mother.

APRIL 21st - WTW CANCELED! SORRY LADIES!

APRIL 28 - WTW 13 - “I AM CHRIS PURDIE” WOMEN SPEAK TO US

AT SEGO!!!!

Local Artist Chris Purdie recently recruited a few women to play a part in his performance art piece. It will be an interesting night exploring gender stereotyping, gender image, androcentric analysis and some interesting insights from these women who took part in Chris’ show. We hope to see all of them there, and Chris will be there to answer questions as well.

Here is the link to an article about the show on SEGO’s site.

May 5 - WTW 14 - Women only on the first tuesday! : )
“Pornography Use and Its Effects on Women: Some Facts, Some Fears, and Some Hope” by Erin Holmes
in a NEW LOCATION this week only: the apartment above the “Flower Basket” at 411 N. University Ave. (a couple of blocks north of SEGO on the same side of the street.)

Erin will be addressing us again about something new, and we’re so excited to have her, this will be a very sensitive and poignant night for us. We can face some of our fears, learn new facts and find new hope regarding this degrading and addictive industry. Hope to see you there. Erin asks that you at least skim, if you can’t retain the information contained in 2 articles. These will be posted in the near future. Please come prepared, it will be so much more meaningful.

Oct 20 - WTW - Alicia on Women in ArtHistory

We will be hearing from Alicia Harris on her specialty: women and art history. She will be sharing a smattering of her very favorites with us, and we’ll get to have some hearty discussion while we get some good ideas for new favorite artists! : )
